Another 7 Day Span

I haven't posted since the 4th! My exciting news consists of a Fun Run we had at work on Tuesday. We were divided into pairs, and given clues like a scavenger hunt. Each clue direction us to a station where we would have to complete an activity to advance to the next station. My partner was a 50 something year old gentleman who has had a heart attack in the past. I thought for sure we'd have to hustle, but nothing too exerting for him . Boy was I wrong!! He was so into this contest, he was booking it all over the place! In the below picture I was laughing so hard because he was running and I could barely keep up!

We had so much fun and ended up coming in 2nd place!!

Now I prepare for my road trip to Massachusetts, my first car ride alone over 3 hours!! I am actually really excited and off to the library right now get books on tape!! Woohoo!!

Golfing in Lakes

On Sunday we were up early and on the golf course by 8:30a!!! Little did we know that each hole was under water. I am not aggregating when I say we had to golf IN water! My legs were muddy and my clothes were soaked for most of the front 9. By the time we were on hole 11, we called it quits! LOL It was good to practice for hazardous conditions though!!

A Dinner to Make Your Tastebuds Dance!

Last night I made myself the best dinner! A Honey Mustard Glazed Salmon fillet (recipe below), homemade mini potato french fries, and a salad with the extra lettuce I thinned out from my garden!! Everything was divine and I paired it with a local cider wine from our Ernie @ the market!! Next time I will skip the carbs and just have the salmon and salad, and I'll still be full!

Ingredients
1 lb salmon fillet

Honey Mustard Glaze
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard or coarse grain mustard
2 cloves garlic, minced

Directions
1 In a bowl, add all the Honey Mustard Marinade ingredients; stir to combine.

2 Place the salmon fillet in a shallow glass dish.

3 Pour marinade on top of the fillet; cover and refrigerate between 15 minutes to 1 hour.

4 Place salmon skin side down on a well greased grill, over medium heat (Save marinade).

5 Cover and grill 10-15 minutes; brush salmon 2-3 times with reserved marinade; turn once during grilling.

6 Salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork.

No Blog = Fun Times

I’m sorry I haven’t been blogging about my life! But I’ve been so busy doing fun things I haven’t had a chance! So lets rewind and I will fill you in!

7/14/09 – Kid Rock!!
Photobucket
We had a BLAST at Kid Rock! We were able to hang out on a beautiful sunny day and tailgate for 5 hours! LOL My buddy Ryan and I went undefeated in beer pong against four other teams!!! If that doesn’t pump you up, nothing will! Lynard Skynard put on a good show, but the real show-stopper was Kid Rock… and he was AMAZING! He barely stopped for air between songs and played everything from old to new tunes. I literally did not stop dancing the whole time!! During the show I remember thinking, “I could do this every day!” Best concert of the year by far… and I wish every day that I was back there.

7/15/09 – Golf with Mom!
Wednesday Mom drove up to spend the day with me in Buffalo! We enjoyed coffee and granola bars on the deck. Then we golfed 9 holes at a beautiful local course called Grover Cleveland. It was another sunny day (what seems like one of four this summer) and we had a blast together! We both did really well too, only two strokes apart! Golf was followed by a FABULOUS lunch and a little shopping! You can’t ask for a better day! By the time 5p rolled Mom took off for home and I was exhausted. But I needed to rally and play in our final softball game… which thankfully took less than an hour to win! Woohoo!

7/18/09 – Travisburg Gardens!
After the market on Saturday, I made a cherry pie and drove to Aunt Janny & Uncle John’s! Us girls spent the evening talking, perusing the gardens, looking at pictures and drinking wine! When Uncle John came home we had a midnight pizza and then all headed for bed!

7/19/09 – Watkins Glen Wine Festival!
Photobucket
On Sunday Aunt Molly, Russell & Lindsay drove down and we all piled down to the Wine Festival! Janny, Molly & John took a fast & furious ride in the pace car around the race track, and then we all went and started to sample the wine! We were able to sample rows and rows of different wineries! My favorite were the sangria wine slushies! Woohoo! It was a wonderful day completed with a nice walk on the lake!

7/22/09 – Playoff Game
Last night we won our playoff!! The score was 15-5 and now we continue on to the championship game! Too bad I won’t be able to make it :o( But I have a good reason – Golf Tournament!

Thanks for letting me catch you up! I’ll blog again soon!

Better Safe than Sorry!

Today I took my bike and went straight to Target to buy a bike helmet. If the worse happens, heaven forbid, I want to protect my noodle. I'm no good to anyone brain dead!

Today my bike ride led me over to Rich Marina. A private place to dock your boat in one of many slips located on the Niagara River. I noticed there was no place for the boaters to party other than a public gazebo and some picnic tables. A few boaters had space to set up tents to party under. But nothing like the RZYC set up!

It was a great day of exploring, follow by an excellent round of golf! I played my best 9-holes yet! Woohoo!

Saturday - Olmsted Parks

After I was rained out from the market, the afternoon shaped up to be quite beautiful! I was able to take in a bike ride that led me to explore quite an interesting place. Olmsted Park's is part of a park system where Shakespeare in the Park takes place.

A brief history: “Fredrick law Olmsted believed parks were places where city dwellers could enjoy scenery designed to ‘refresh and delight the eye, and through the eye, the mind and spirit.’This philosophy inspired Buffalo’s park and parkway system-a wealth of cultural gems that sparkle in virtually every neighborhood. In Buffalo, Olmsted created the first of its kind—and interconnected park system that is not listed on the National Register of History Places.”
This first took me to a spiral ramp I needed to bike up to be able to access the bridge to cross the busy I190. The other side was another spiral ramp, taking me down a hill towards the river wih three beautiful aquaduct tunnels.

I also came across this awesome statue just like Michelangelo's David! But Buffalo's very own!

Once I was down by the water I counted SEVEN bridal parties taking pictures! I was in a whirlwind! lol
What a wonderful day & bike ride!

My First Cherry Pie!!

The best perk about the Farmer's Market is the free fruit! I was able to get enough cherries to bake a pie and can 9 pints of cherries! Woohoo! The best part was my handy cherry pitter I bought from Watt's! I almost didn't get one because we sold them so fast on Saturday!!

Shakespeare in the Park

Delaware Park (again, I love this place) offers a FREE play 6 days a week right by the water. Every night at 7:30, hundreds of Buffalonians bring chairs, blankets, food & wine to this slopped hill. We all cram together to watch, eat and drink while the play unfolds before us. Truly nothing is better. If only we would have been able to see, we would have known what the play was about! LOL Next time we will bring chairs to sit up high like everyone else! ;-)

The 2009 Market season officially started on July 4th! It was cold in the morning and windy, but fun to be working again. I think I ate my weight in cherries! And a shout out to Ernie from Dancing Buffalo Cidre! He had our breakfast beers ready and waiting! You can't say no to that! I can't wait for the hot days with tables full of fruit!

Last night we boarded the Miss Buffalo Cruise with other Alumni and friends for a two hour boat ride around the harbor! For a small price we had unlimited pitchers of beer, pizza and wings plus some beautiful Buffalo scenery!
