ARTVOICE

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This is my favorite Buffalo publication!! It comes out weekly and is full of articles, happenings around the city, art shows, festivals, etc! I usually find a few interesting things in each issue. Unfortunately, every time I've seen an event I would like to attend, I already have plans! And they are everywhere! The library, the liquor store and on street corners! It's quite nifty!

Now you'll all be in the know if someone asks you about ARTVOICE!

FUN FUN FUN

Whew, I have to get you guys caught up on my weekend!! Let’s start with my favorite Buffalo experience to date: O Restaurant! A fabulous sushi bar (super close to my house) with an amazing atmosphere! I went with my friend/co-worker/work-out buddy Laura and her roommate! We sipped chocolate martini’s while we waited for our three different rolls: Crab Truffle, Californian King (my fav!) and a Quesadilla one! And of course we ordered low-sodium soy sauce! ;o) It was soooo good, I can’t wait to go back!

Friday was a fun day all around! We celebrated a friend/co-worker’s birthday all day. I organized to have everyone chip in $3 to get a breakfast pizza surprise! Plus I made an ice-cream sandwich cake! YUM! After work I went to my friend Tucci’s place to help decorate for the Halloween/Derek’s Birthday Party. Then home to change to my costume and then back to party! A lot of people from work showed up again, so it was tons of fun!

Halloween Party!

Saturday started out with a nice breakfast at Denny’s with the roomie then off to the library for their used book sale!! I got about 7 books for only $8.50! Here’s us searching through the titles!

After using one of the computers upstairs, we went home where I prepared a grocery list for the apartment warming party and headed to the gym. And boy did I get a good workout in! Then it was off to Tops where I got a bunch of groceries, checked out and didn’t have my checkbook! HA! How embarrassing! So I had to leave my groceries at the checkout and call Wendy to drive my checkbook to me! Of course I waited outside to avoid more embarrassment!

Saturday night’s entertainment was a girl’s night with our friend Jamie! We had wine and mic ultra’s and watched movies and played Skip-bo! By the end of the night we were dying from laughter! Bedtime wasn’t until 3am, whew!

Sunday morning Wendy and I woke up, raced around to do cooking and cleaning before everyone arrived. We barely got ourselves ready before my Mom & Dad and Grandma & Grandpa showed up! They came with gifts in arms for me! I was so shocked, I didn’t expect anyone to bring anything! We had a good time hanging in the apartment and eating chili and chicken wing dip! My mom brought me the most BEAUTIFUL bouquet ever!! I couldn’t take my eyes off of them the entire time!!

Weekend Mania!

Friday started off with an awesome working out and followed with the first Halloween Party of the year!! I went as an elegant Geisha, wearing a real kimono complete with real chopsticks given to me as a gift from Japan! It was a lot fun! Mostly co-workers were in attedance, but it was fun to party outside of work together. Being the newly responsible adult that I am, we left early as there is only so much standing around and playing beer pong that a girl can take!

Here is me all dressed up!

Saturday I woke up at 7a without any lucky of falling back into slumber. So I was at the gym by 9:30 to get a little cardio in, take an hour Pilates class and start my new weight routine. I am completely loving working out and find myself wanting to stay longer and longer at the gym! I've also been eating better, which makes me feel double good about my myself! Today I'm trying a HILO class for an hour, which is suppose to be basic floor areobics. The rest of the day I went to the library to use a computer, Tops to stock up on South Beach Diet worthy food and then home where I relaxed and watch IT! Which is definitely always a good watch!

Sunday was full of laundry, puttering and cooking! I made breakfast sandwiches for Wendy and I in the morning and then started a pot of Chili in my crockpot!

In the afternoon Wendy and I went together to a co-worker's son's birthday party at Chucky Cheese!! It was tons of fun as Wendy and I just ran around playing all the video games and eating pizza! hahaha! When we got home we had two friends come over to eat the delicious chili with us, drink wine and play Buzzword!! I'm happy to report my team won! WOOOHOO!! :o)

Catch Up

Whew! I have been busy this week! The breast cancer walk was excellent and very prosperous (see the post before this for details and photos!), so that is definitely a load off my shoulders! Monday I started at a brand new gym!! I've gone every day after work to Best Fitness, right down the street from my work and apartment!

The gym itself is only two weeks old! All the equipment is start of the art! They have a large areobics room with a variety of classes available. So far I've done the 30 minute abs, which was intense! And also an hour long yoga class. With my membership includes a weekly meeting with a personal trainer. So I had her set me up with some weight machines to target my abs, love handles, inner thighs and shoulders/pecs. I'm super pumped to get PUMPED! :o)

In other news:
My wonderful grandma gave me the prettiest Afircan Violet for my apartment!!

And this picture I HAVE to share with everyone! A fabulous Coleus outside the greenhouse at Watt Farms! I have a Coleus of my own, but this one is just beautiful! I hope mine gets this large and beautiful!

My fabulous mother sent me home Sunday with a nice stand up planter to hold my Coleus in for the winter! I have such a wonderful, giving family! I'm so grateful!!

Candles = Fun

Last night my friend and co-worker Sara had a candle party for us girls, and what fun we had! Laughing, joking and being crazy was what our night entailed! There was free wine and great dips, so I was a happy camper the entire night! The part I loved the most was hanging out with some of the girls outside of work. I love girl time!

And of course I was roped in to have my own Party Lite party... so you will all be getting invites soon! :o)

Random Acts of Kindness

Don't you just love when someone thinks to do something overly nice for a person who needs it? Even if you don't partake in the act itself, it's still nice to watch from a far!

At work, two of my fellow co-workers just lost someone very dear to them... a mother to one, and mother-in-law to the other. The funeral was yesterday and a lot of my fellow co-workers attended.

This morning, a very nice gentlemen who works in the housing department, brought in one of his own huge Hibiscus plants to give to one of the ladies as a "pick me up." It's completely gorgeous with large, beautiful flowers. It's such a site to behold and a wonderful act of kindness, that I just had to share with all of you.

Let's all try and do something nice for someone today!!

I am happy to report my tomato plant is getting larger by the day, as are the tomatos growing on it! I had to replant it this weekend... I was afraid it would topple over from being top heavy!

And don't you love the creatative "planter" I found to use!?

Also our cat Angel (yes he's a dude) has been crazy lately! We left the door open on Sunday to see if he would creep out. He didn't once but very hesitantly.

Two-headed Turtle

Two-headed turtle goes on display
Two-month old is a rare example of a conjoined-twin birth

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - A two-headed turtle captured by a turtle collector is a rare example of a conjoined-twin birth, its owner said.

The turtle would have likely died in the wild because it swims awkwardly and would be an easy target for predators, according to Jay Jacoby, manager of Big Al's Aquarium Supercenter in East Norriton.

The store bought the tiny turtle from the collector for an undisclosed price and will keep it on display, he said.

The 2-month-old turtle, known as a red-eared slider, fits on a silver dollar. It has two heads sticking out from opposite ends of its shell, along with a pair of front feet on each side. But there is just one set of back feet and one tail.

The turtle is seemingly healthy, and the species can live 15 to 20 years, Jacoby said. The turtle has not yet been named.

The same exotic-turtle collector sold another Big Al's store a conjoined-twin turtle about 20 years ago, Jacoby said. The man lives in Florida, but he declined to identify him.

Weekend Details

Whew! This past weekend was a whirlwind of activity!! Friday started with a flu shot and a drive out to Albion! I stayed home with my parents on Friday night to get some much needed rest! Saturday it was up bright and early and off to work at the Hilton Apple Festival for Watts! We sold our delicious fudge and it was a busy, fun time!

I was pretty pooped by Sunday afternoon! But I had to make the drive back to Buffalo to get ready for Wendy's birthday on Monday!! I made sure to wake her up early with birthday wishes and my present! It was only about 6:30am!!

I made sure she had a good birthday day! We even to out to lunch at Empire Grill. It was an awesome place! We got a seat half inside the restuarant and half on the sidewalk, as the walls are glass windows that can be pulled up for an nice, open, atmosphere!

Now also on Sunday I made sure to pull out my Halloween decorations for October! I don't have many, but enough to make the place look festive! I have to give a public thank you to my Mother for the few items she "donated" for Halloween! First are some beautiful orange and green glass grapes!! Even the glass basket they are sitting in is from my mom! Then I created a little halloween "scene" in the living room. I knew the other thing that would complete it would be a wire tree with little green glass leaves on it that my mother owned. Being the FABULOUS mother that she is, she sent it to me via mail!! I just love her soooo much! :o)
